Police in Truong Vinh Ward, Nghe An Province, have uncovered a large quantity of firecracker-making materials and finished firecrackers allegedly stored by a young man for illegal production and sale ahead of the Lunar New Year.
According to Truong Vinh Ward Police, officers have recently uncovered a case involving the illegal production and trading of firecrackers in the area.
On September 24, following a period of surveillance, verification, and evidence collection, police detained Nguyen Tien Phi, 22, a local resident, on an emergency basis for investigation into the production of prohibited goods.
During a search of Phi’s residence, police discovered 814kg of firecracker-making powder hidden under his bed.
Officers also seized more than 5kg of sulfur, charcoal, potassium perchlorate (KClO4), nearly 50kg of firecracker fuses, and approximately 7kg of finished firecrackers, along with various other materials and equipment allegedly used to manufacture firecrackers.
During questioning, Phi reportedly admitted that since early 2026, he had been sourcing materials through social media to make firecrackers himself, with the intention of selling them during the Lunar New Year holiday for profit.
According to his initial statement, on January 10, Phi contacted a person identified as T. to purchase firecracker-making materials worth approximately VND 200 million.
As the materials were not immediately available, the supplier reportedly delivered them to Phi in July.
Phi then traveled to southern Vietnam to receive the materials, arranged transportation back to Nghe An, and stored them at his residence.
The case remains under investigation as police work to determine the origin of the materials and identify any other individuals involved.
