The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court has returned the case file involving the smuggling of 1,477 diamonds through Tan Son Nhat International Airport for further investigation.
Vienam investigation service, the court requested additional clarification of several issues, particularly those concerning the background and personal information of individuals involved in the case.
According to the indictment, beginning in 2023, Shah Hemantkumar Sureshkumar, who operated Nsh & Co in India, allegedly reached an agreement with Nguyen Thi Linh to organize the illegal transportation of diamonds from India to Vietnam for sale.
From August 2023 to October 2024, Shaileshkumar Hareshbhai Prajapati entered Vietnam five times and allegedly transported a total of 1,477 diamonds to Linh for distribution.
During the final trip on October 23, 2024, Prajapati was discovered concealing 715 diamonds in his luggage while entering Vietnam through Tan Son Nhat International Airport without making a customs declaration.
Examination determined that the seized items included 503 natural diamonds and 212 synthetic CVD diamonds, with a combined value of more than VND 6.84 billion.
Investigators determined that the four earlier shipments involved a total of 762 additional diamonds.
However, those diamonds were not physically recovered, with their quantities established primarily through data extracted from mobile phones and other investigative evidence.
The case also involves questions surrounding Sureshkumar, who was identified as the person allegedly directing Prajapati to transport the diamonds into Vietnam.
Because investigators had not yet received the results of a judicial assistance request to verify his identity and background, this part of the case was separated for further investigation.
