Hai Phong: Woman arrested after 27 years on the run

After 27 years in hiding, authorities arrested Nguyễn Thị Út, 65, a resident of Lê Chân District in Hải Phòng, Vietnam.

Vietnam detective service, she had been wanted for abuse of trust to appropriate property.

According to case records, after suffering business losses, Út allegedly took a large amount of money from several people and then fled the locality.

On July 27, 1999, the Investigation Police Agency of the former Hồng Bàng District Police issued a wanted notice for her.

After fleeing, Út moved to Gia Lai with her husband and two children, Vietnam investigation service.

While living there, she changed her name to Nguyễn Thị Nhẫn and used new identification documents to conceal her identity for many years.

Through investigation and tracking, authorities located and arrested Út on March 1, 2026, at an address on Phạm Ngọc Thạch Street.

She was later transferred to Hải Phòng to continue the investigation and handle the case in accordance with the law.

According to Hải Phòng police, the arrest after many years demonstrates the authorities’ determination to track down wanted fugitives and maintain public security.
