Fake Auction Official Accused of Defrauding Over VND 300 Billion

A woman in Dak Lak Province has been temporarily detained by police for investigation over allegations of fraud and asset appropriation involving more than VND 300 billion.

According to investigators, she allegedly impersonated an official from an asset auction center in order to gain the trust of investors.

Preliminary findings indicate that between May 2025 and April 2026, Tran Thi Phi Yen, 40, residing in Buon Ma Thuot Ward, together with a young man identified as D., posed as officials connected to property auction activities.

The pair allegedly used forged documents and fake auction-related paperwork associated with auction projects in Hanoi, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, and Dong Nai to persuade victims to contribute investment capital in exchange for promised high profits.

Using this scheme, the suspects are accused of defrauding two victims in Dak Lak of more than VND 300 billion.

Authorities have temporarily detained both Yen and her accomplice as the investigation expands.

The Investigation Police Agency of Dak Lak Provincial Police has also called on anyone who may have transferred money, invested funds, or believes they may be a victim in the case to contact authorities and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
