Binh Dinh: Mixing 90% soybean powder into coffee products

Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh (June 19, 2025) – Mr. Pham Duy Hanh, Director of Chau Thanh Company, specializing in producing ground coffee in Quy Nhon City, was prosecuted on the afternoon of June 19 for producing and trading in counterfeit food products.

Mr. Hanh founded the company in 2008 and introduced many products such as “golden weasel ground coffee” or “pure coffee”.

However, when inspected, the authorities discovered that the product only contained about 9-10% coffee beans, the remaining 90% was soybean powder, used because it was cheap and had a smell similar to coffee

According to Mr. Hanh’s statement, he personally managed the entire process from mixing, roasting, packaging to consumption.

The product is sold for 65,000–85,000 VND/kg, mainly supplied to sidewalk cafes

Authorities have seized 237kg of packaged powder that was about to be released to the market along with many machines for production and packaging.

Binh Dinh Provincial Police are continuing to investigate, coordinating with relevant agencies to check the points of consumption, preventing the spread of fake products to the market.
